In this course, students are introduced to the movie-making and stop-motion animation process through immersion as they work in small groups to create their own short films.
Students focus on a particular technique each semester, such as acrylic painting basics. They will learn paint mixing, paint brush selection, paint loads, and application. Other activities have included pastel work, mixed-media art, and more.
Students roll up their sleeves, mix up some magic, and create delicious treats from scratch. Students work together to discover the joy of baking or cooking, with past menu items being cookies, pasta, chocolate cake, and more.
Both beginner band and advanced band are available and led by Ms. Angelica Malkowski. Students do not need experience for beginner band and will be able to try out instruments as they get started. Advanced band emphasizes technique, musicianship, and ensemble performance.
Students will learn about the various roles that work together to build a successful newscast. They will get hands-on experience in reporting, anchoring, producing, videography, and writing for broadcast news. Newscasts will be created and sent to the school for viewing.
Students will take on leadership roles to organize and participate in a different sport/activity each week as teams. They will also research, plan, and implement a school-wide service project to benefit a nonprofit organization.
The musical theater group practices year-round for their annual performance of a beloved classic. Previous years have brought performances of Frozen, Alladin, and Mary Poppins.
In STEM, students develop the 5 Cs of 21st Century Skills—critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, and computational thinking—by creating solutions to real-world problems.
All students automatically have a study hall period incorporated into their schedule unless they decide to enroll in Band. Students use Study Hall to catch up on school work, organize for upcoming assessments, and complete homework.
Students in this elective are assigned an early childhood class. They assist the teacher with centers and work with children on a one-to-one basis. This is a great elective for students considering teaching as a career.
This dynamic and interactive course is designed to enhance students' language arts skills through personalized instruction and small-group collaboration. Students engage in a supportive and creative environment where they can express themselves, receive feedback, and grow as writers.
